Wednesday 31st March 2010: Leader & Watt Electrical win the 2010 Paradox Wellington Golf Tournament

The time has flown since the last Paradox golf tournament at the Waikanae Golf Club. This year, the first under Atlas Gentech Distribution, exceeded all expectations and we would like to thank Paradox for sponsoring this annual event!

Each year we try to exceed on the previous years’ efforts and this year was no exception with in excess of eighty golfers. The format once again was Ambrose with a twist. A new rule was introduced which evened out the field ensuring tighter competition. This was clearly the case this year with less than one shot (Net) between the top three teams.

Once again we were fortunate to catch a break with the weather. The phone was running hot the day before the tournament with people concerned about the weather. This included the Atlas Gentech staff flying in for the tournament during a storm with winds gusts of 130km recorded. Needless to say, the day of the tournament turned out fine if a little breezy. The Waikanae golf course also deserves a mention; the storm dumped a lot of water on the course which was barely noticeable.

To the results, team Leader & Watt Electrical of Palmerston North took out the major prize, a Paradox SP5500 alarm pack each with a Net score of 58. Team Breadon McCardle & Chubb came second with a net score of 58.1; they each took home a Paradox Orbit MP3 speaker and a Paradox Laptop bag. Third place went to a group of independent telephony experts under the guidance of Atlas Gentech (Communications) very own Murray Dawson. They each took home a Paradox headlamp and a bottle of wine.

This year with larger numbers attending justified two “longest drive” and two “nearest the pin” awards. The longest drives were won by Bert Chang of Contel and Brendon Curtis of Team ANZ. Each took home a set of personal mobile radios for their efforts. The “nearest the pin” winners each received a Bluetooth head set. They were Bruce Horsefield also of ANZ and Peter James of All Secure Self Storage.

Judging from the satisfied looks on everyone’s faces in the club house after the round a good time was had by all. This is comforting as 10 March 2011 has been booked for next years' tournament with plans for an even more successful and fullfilling event.

Many thanks to Bevan & Charmaine (Wellington branch), Steve Moss & James McKim (Auckland branch) and Brent Stokes (Christchurch branch) for their help in the organisation of this years’ event. Big thanks to the Waikanae Golf Club for the excellent course and facilities. Steve Moss would also like to thank Andy Wray for the organisation of the successful annual event.
